GORDONS DESIGN JOURNEY

GORDON KINGSLEY BASS

(AKA: GKB Interiors)

Creating a special space to call his own was always important to Gordon, but he never thought about turning it into a career until he had the opportunity to redesign his own home from top to bottom.

During this time he read an article that said, “If you’re trying to find your purpose, what do you think about right before you go to bed?”  He realized the answer for him was that he thought about spaces, and curating environments.  “That’s when a lightbulb went off - could I actually make a career out of what I love to do?”

Enrolling in the Heritage School of Interior Design was a natural next step to going all-in on becoming a designer.

“Every week at Heritage, we had a field trip day when we would go out and visit local shops and connect with the business owners.  I came to realize that my biggest asset as a designer is my rolodex.

Gordon’s continued the practice of the weekly field trip, sometimes to shop for clients, sometimes just for his own pleasure.  Keeping up the practice keeps him connected with the fun side of design.  As a natural-born shopper, Gordon has an uncanny ability to remember everything he’s seen and experienced on his shopping trips, and he calls upon that inspiration when it comes time to create a space with his clients.

I love the process of finding a special, one-of-a-kind piece at a local shop, and having great conversations with the shop owner about the origin of the item. I want to bring my clients into my world so they can be a part of that fun memory too. Then, when the project is finished, my clients don’t just have a beautiful environment to enjoy, they have a story to tell.  They’ve actually created wonderful memories in the process of creating a space they’ll create memories in.  What could be better than that?
